The Salinas Valley Chamber of Commerce honored President Eduardo M. Ochoa at the annual Legacy of Leadership event on Nov. 13, which was open to the public via virtual live stream.

ÐÔÊӽ紫ý has been recognized for its leadership in sustainable practices in the 2020 Sustainable Campus Index, a publication from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher ÐÔÊӽ紫ý (AASHE), a leader and driver in North America’s campus sustainability movement.

Since 2013, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s annual flu vaccine clinic has been held in the Student Center, organized by Health Promotion and ÐÔÊӽ紫ý in partnership with the Campus Health Center, Monterey County Health Department, and ÐÔÊӽ紫ý Nursing Program.

Before sheltering-in-place restrictions due to COVID-19, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s Service Learning Institute (SLI) placed about 500 students in local schools every semester to provide tutoring. But since instruction moved online and school districts lost the ability to monitor and control interactions, K-12 officials have been reluctant to allow online tutoring due to liability concerns.

The pandemic has created a paradigm shift — a “new normal” — in which everyone is learning to conduct their business and continue their education online. To better help prospective students during this unprecedented time, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý has released a brand new virtual campus tour.

Months away from his retirement, CSU Chancellor Timothy P. White delivered a large measure of positive news from the flagship Graduation Initiative 2025.

Fully leveraging our proximity to the extraordinary "living laboratory" of Monterey Bay, ÐÔÊӽ紫ý began a dive program from its earliest days. The program focused on recreational training, including introductory courses in open water SCUBA and advanced SCUBA rescue. In 2010, the scientific research diving program was born.

Corey Garza, Ph.D., professor of marine science in ÐÔÊӽ紫ý’s College of Science, was recently inducted as a 2020 fellow in the California Academy of Sciences. He joins a cohort of 13 other scientists from California and beyond as new members.

In September, the office of Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-Carmel Valley) announced more than $1 million in federal grant funding for ÐÔÊӽ紫ý under GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs), a $600,000 grant for the PPOHA program (Promoting Postbaccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans) to prepare Latino ÐÔÊӽ紫ý and UCSC students for graduate studies, and $155 million for Hispanic Serving Institutions in this year’s House appropriations bill.
