At Cal State Monterey Bay, we strive to support our natural environment and all of those who live within it.

Sustainability for today, tomorrow and everyone.

Sustainability at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý isn’t a distant goal — it’s something you can see, touch, eat and try every day.

From refilling your shampoo bottle at a Wonderfil station, charging your phone at a solar bench, or choosing delicious plant-based meals in the Dining Commons, to finding gently used school supplies for the new semester at Second Wave Supplies, or upcycling old treasures in the Makerspace, sustainability here is hands-on and built into campus life.

Our walkable campus, outdoor spaces, disc golf courses and access to the natural beauty of the Monterey Bay invite us to slow down and connect with place. Together, we grow more sustainable each day as 80% of our academic departments integrate sustainability into what they teach. Whether you’re a student, staff or faculty, there’s no single “right way” to be sustainable at ÐÔÊӽ紫ý, there’s lots of ways to jump in, experiment and be part of the next wave of positive change.

We are actively reducing greenhouse gas emissions across campus operations with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

Plant 2,030 Trees

Through regular community tree-planting events, we are working toward planting 2,030 trees by 2030 — enhancing our campus landscape and supporting local ecosystems.

90% Waste Diversion

Our campus community is working together to reduce landfill waste by expanding recycling and composting efforts, with a goal of diverting 90% of waste by 2030.
